The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is monitoring whether or not all of this city’s 98 barangays held Saturday barangay assemblies as required by law.

City DILG Director Mohammad Taha Arakama said the synchronized barangay assembly is scheduled to be held Saturday as mandated under the Local Government Code of 1991.

“It is mandated under the LGC of 1991, implemented by presidential proclamation as well as a DILG memorandum circular, that there shall be a synchronized barangay assembly for this year and it will happen on March 29 for this first semester,” Arakama said.

During the barangay assembly, Arakama said the barangay captain will deliver his state of the barangay address, accomplishments, ongoing projects for 2014, and summary of expenses, income and expenditures.

He said that a non-government organization and any other government entity may file administrative case for dereliction of duty at the office of the Ombudsman or the Sangguniang Panlungsod against any barangay that did not conduct a barangay assembly.
