A bus conductor of the Rural Bus Transit has executed a sworn statement saying he had issued a bus ticket to a male passenger wearing white uniform who looked very similar to Basil Brice Bernardo, a Rad-Tech student, who claimed he was abducted on March 21, 2014.

Edolfonso Panganoron y Mayonando, 36, married, of Saray, Iligan City recalled in an affidavit that he was collecting fares from passengers aboard a Rural Transit bus with body number 1504 which left at 12 noon at the Guiwan Bus Terminal that was heading for Cagayan de Oro, when he ssued a ticket to a male passenger with control number 998600.

Panganoron stated that the said male passenger was wearing all-white uniform which made him look like a nursing student.

He said the bus fare is P190 but he gave a special discount (student fare) to  the male passenger in white after the latter presented a school identification card.

However Panganoron said he failed to notice the name of the person as he was busy issuing tickets to other passengers.

Pangonoron said in the deposition that the male passenger seated at the second to the last row of seats in the bus.

The bus conductor further stated that around 3 p.m. of the same day the bus arrived at Ipil Bus Terminal where the male passenger wearing white uniform alighted.

Around 6:20 p.m. Pangonoron added in his affidavit that Ipil Mayor Alibutdan called him and asked if there was a male passenger wearing white who boarded their bus. He said he quickly answered yes as there was only one passenger with that description.

Moreover, lawmen showed to Pangonoron a picture of Bernardo taken from the CCTV camera and the conductor confirmed the man in that photograph was very similar to the white uniform.

To recall, police and military forces were alerted last March 21 p.m. when Bernardo informed his classmates through text messages that he was seized by unidentified men outside the Zamboanga City Medical Center where they were undergoing practicum for a Radiation Technology course.

Bernardo told his classmates in the text messages that he was on his way to take his meal before noon when he was blocked by men who forcibly took him to a white van which sped towards Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Authorities said if Bernardo was indeed abducted, the abductors would take his cellphone and prevent him from sending text messages to anybody.

Police said Bernardo was spotted around 3 p.m. at the Jollibee Ipil outlet.

During continuous investigation, police gathered two witnesses — both tricycle drivers — who told them they saw Bernardo alighting from a Rural Transit Bus at the Ipil bus terminal and proceeded to the Jollibee.

The statements of the two tricycle drivers were supported by a Rural Transit Bus ticket that was recovered by the police from Bernardo’s possession. – Dan Toribio Jr.
