Twenty five out-of-school youths from the city’s west coast started yesterday the 35-day marine diesel mechanic training course being held jointly by the Mega Fishing and TESDA.

TESDA trainor Geronimo Bandico said he and other personnel from the agency will teach the students all mechanic works that can get them job aboard fishing vessels.

The 35-day training course is absolutely free as it is a project of the Mega Fishing and TESDA.

Mr. Michael Lim of MFC said it is the second time for the company and TESDA to offer such course to those who are unemployed residing in some west coast barangays.

Lim added that some of the students will be employed by the company after the short course.

Mega Fishing also signed a Memorandum of Agreement with TESDA head Undersecretary Joel Villanueva to formalize the partnership of the company and the government agency in giving free training courses to out-of-school youth in the city.

In an interview, Lim said mechanic diesel technicians are usuallly needed aboard fishing boats that is  why they decided to offer the course to those who are interested to learn and get employment in fishing vessels.

Meanwhile, students of the course expressed gratitude to Mega Fishing and TESDA for  giving them such opportunity. — Dan Toribio Jr.
