House Deputy Speaker Beng Climaco has called on all sectors to work closely at security and disaster risk reduction measures following the series of extreme events either caused by nature or climate change spawned by global warming.

Climaco issued this call, as she expressed her all out support to Saturday’s observance of Earth Hour, a worldwide advocacy intended to reduce effects of global warming and climate change. Zamboanga City joined the entire country and the world in the observance of Earth Hour, a 60-minute power shut off.

In a message during the 14th Assembly of the Federation of Barangay Kagawads held at the Garden Orchid Convention Center Sunday, Cong. Climaco cited the vital role played by the barangay officials in preparing constituents in confronting any and all situations concerning security or disaster.
She pointed out specifically the need for vigilance of the barangays especially on coastal areas from west to east coasts of the city. “We also implore for your help in intelligence gathering and to aid in securing the barangays”.

For District I, she said the 37 barangays has been embarking on security and disaster risk reduction and preparedness programs through the project dubbed “BC Barangay Caravan” that culminated recently.
Even after the caravan, she said, programs on security and disaster risk reduction and preparedness will continue and will be further be strengthened.

Likewise, the lady solon updated the barangay kagawads present during the assembly on the various bills benefiting barangay kagawads and tanods that she fully supports. “In essence these are bills aimed to help barangay officials who are in the forefront of service”. — Rham Joseph Cabasag
