The Filipina resort worker who was abducted by gunmen in Semporna in Malaysian-controlled Sabah this week was identified Friday by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Malaysian police confirmed to the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia that the Filipina kidnap victim was Marcelita M. Dayawan, 40, and a staff member at the Singamata Resort, a DFA statement said.

Dayawan was seized Wednesday night by unidentified armed men at Singamata Resort along with a Chinese national.

A Philippine embassy official was dispatched to Sabah to coordinate with local authorities there, the DFA said.

“Embassy officials are in touch with Ms. Dayawan’s relatives and are extending consular assistance,” it said, adding Philippine and Malaysian authorities “are closely and actively working together towards the speedy resolution of the case.”

“We continue to hope and pray for the immediate resolution of this incident and the safe return of the victims to their families,” the DFA said.
