Artistically-inclined children and youth in Zamboanga City have something educational and fun to look forward to this summer as Danzambo Kids Empowerment Initiatives (DKEI) will conduct the 2014 Summer Arts Training Program (ATP) at Baliwasan Central School (BCS), Baliwasan District from April 7 to May 16, Monday to Friday,  1 to 3 p.m.

DKEI founder and trainer Daniel D. Muñoz said the annual summer ATP, which is now on its fourth year, has been held in cooperation with the Department of Education.

Muñoz said the training program, as part of DKEI’s initiatives, aims to provide a venue for local students from both public and private elementary and high schools to develop creative talents in the field of visual arts; build appreciation of the arts and their role in community and nation building.

Likewise, Muñoz said the program is designed to equip the participants with the necessary attitudes and values in addition to knowledge and skills in the study and practice of the arts and prepare them for art competitions in the school year 2014-2015.

“Kids and teens can discover their talent and interest in the arts as they get an enjoyable and exciting experience in creative activities such as drawing, coloring, poster-making and painting, which are provided by ATP,” said the experienced and multi-awarded trainer.

Muñoz, who also teaches Visual Arts to pupils from Grades I to VI – Gifted and Talented (GT) classes at BCS during the school year, stressed the importance of training for those who are into competitions, especially for the honor students who seek co-curricular points by participating actively in art contests.

“The training and guidance offered to budding artists can transform them into better and more competitive performers as they enhance their skills and gain more self-confidence through continued practice in the process of the program,” Muñoz explained.

“And later, their exposure to and success in different art competitions will bring them the desired points needed to boost their grades,” he said.

Citing other benefits of the course, the trainer said the acquired and developed artistic skills of the students will be a valuable asset that can help them in various school requirements like projects and reports which call for the executions of drawings and illustrations.

“And this will help them obtain higher grades in their academic subjects as well,” said Muñoz, who also tutors school kids in Mathematics, among other subjects.

Meanwhile, Muñoz revealed that through his trainings, he has produced many notable student achievers who soared beyond and above school level in the field of competition.

Among these achievers are his own relatives – nephews and nieces - who have become globally competitive and world-class artists, winning honors and recognition for Zamboanga City and the Philippines in various international art competitions for young people.

Muñoz, whose passion is to serve and empower the youngsters, said that he intends to nurture more artists and build more winning talents who will also make the city and country proud.

Inviting young boys and girls to take part in the program, he added, “It’s one great way of spending your summer vacation.”

So, take advantage of the opportunity. Join the summer ATP. Express yourself creatively and have fun.
