A policeman and a “civilian asset” were shot and killed in a road ambush in Baliwasan as gun violence continues in the city.

The fatalities were identified as PO1 Marcel Tuballa y Arcayena of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company and Richard Buenaventura, a civilian police asset.

Tuballa and Buenaventura each sustained lone gunshot bullet wound in their body and were rushed to the Brent Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

A police report disclosed that around 7:45 p.m.Tuballa was driving a motorcycle with Buenaventura backriding him, on their way to the Baliwasan Police Action Center where the former reports, when two men riding tandem on another motorcycle chased and the backrider opened fire on them at the junction of Baliwasan Tabuk.

The killers used a .45 caliber pistol

Tuballa and Buenaventura were rushed to the hospital on an ambulance while the incident was reported to the police.

Investigators recovered three spent shells of .45 caliber pistol and two empty shells of caliber 5.56 at the ambush site.

DZT gathered that Tuballa managed to return fire using his M16 rifle but he missed his target.

The gunmen sped away after the incident.
