One of the gunmen who shot and killed a policeman and his civilian “asset”  at the junction of Baliwasan Seaside and Tabuk Saturday night, was arrested in Cawit yesterday morning.

Nabbed was Idris Daris y Mampo, 52, married, of Zone 3, Cawit. He was arrested by men of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company under Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca, around 11 a.m. rounds of ammunition.

A police report disclosed that connection with the killing of PO1 Marcel Tuballa and his “asset” identified as Richard Buenaventura. The raid in Cawit was carried out after Huesca and his men had gathered information that Daris, who was spotted in Cawit, was one of the gunmen in the Baliwasan ambush.

When policemen arrived in the area, they spotted Daris and was positively identified by some witnesses as one of the killers.

Immediately police operatives held Daris and found a revolver in his possession.

Daris was turned over to the Central Police Station for the filing of charges in court.

Tuballa was driving a motorcycle with Buenaventura as backrider on their way to a Police Action Center in Baliwasan where Tuballa was assigned when two men riding tandem on another motorcycle chased them and the backrider opened at the junction of Baliwasan Seaside and Tabuk.

The victims were rushed to the hospital where Tuballa and Buenaventura were declared dead on arrival.– Dan Toribio Jr.
