Mr. Alexander Tio from Indonesia and currently vice president of the JCI for Asia and the Pacific was very impressed with the hospitality of the Zamboangueños following a warm reception he got during his visit here yesterday.

His first visit to Zamboanga City, Tio said he was surprised to see happy faces of local JCI members led by Mr. Hegem Furigay, Area 5 vice president, who welcomed him at the airport and brought him around the city to see the real situation.

Tio’s travel to the Philippines is in connection with the celebration of the JCI Week. He put priority on stepping  in Zamboanga City as they have many projects to help the government rebuild Zamboanga after the Zamboanga siege in September last year.

In a press conference at a local hotel, Tio, Furigay, Cristina Ponce Garcia, JCI national president, Abegail Sable, 2014 JCI Week chairman and Rumel Mira, regional vice president for Western Mindanao, explained that JCI is sponsoring a livelihood training in coordination with TESDA for women affected during the September siege for them to  earn a living .

“We are here to unite all sectors of society. Afterall JCI is here to provide development opportunity and empower young people to create positive change,” Tio said.

He added that he did not see any negative things in the city as he believes that the government and the people can easily rebuild the city.

Meanwhile, Furigay said they have assigned 50 chapter chairmen to help build back the city.

He added that the chapter from Lanao del Norte has already allocated funds for the city. – Dan Toribio Jr.
