Newly proclaimed Councilor Miguel “Mike” Alavar III (District 2) was welcomed by his colleagues on his first day at the City Council during its regular session yesterday.

Vice Mayor Cesar Ituralde acknowledged Alavar as the new member of the City Council before the legislative body proceeded in tackling the agenda of the day.

Alavar delivered a short and simple speech in which he pledged to serve the people of Zamboanga City and committed himself to work hard with other city officials to bring more progress to the city.
In his speech, Alavar thanked God for giving him the privilege and opportunity to serve the people of Zamboanga.

“I am sorry for I am late, however, gentlemen and ladies of this august body my being late is not a hindrance for me to pursue my dream for the people of Zamboanga City,” said Alavar.
Once again, Alavar reiterated that his dream for Zamboangueños is for them to have food in their tables every meal time.

“Comida na todo mesa del Zamboangueños,” he said in chabacano.
Again, Alavar said that through humble representation, he will pursue his platforms for livelihood programs, skills development training, small scale enterprises and development of local products in every barangay.  “This is my mission,” he said.

He added that his programs would be more effective and can be realized if his colleagues will support him in this goal.

Alavar further said that his program is most intended for the youth, mothers, unemployed and the under-employed.

“Once this is developed and realized I could safely say that food shall always be available in every table,” he concluded. — Dan Toribio Jr.
