Mayor Beng Climaco recognized the resiliency of the Zamboangueno children who, despite the challenges of the past year and the on-going rehabilitation and recovery efforts, continue to give their level best inside and outside the classrooms.

In her message during the recent press briefing, Climaco congratulated the graduates hailing from three of the most affected barangays in the armed conflict of September 2013. Eighty five students from Rio Hondo ES, 76 students from Mariki ES, and 305 students from the Sta. Barbara ES marched down the graduation aisle during the simultaneous graduation ceremonies last Friday.

“Despite the siege, these children marched in victory,” declared Climaco.

The mayor also recognized Teacher Claire Serrano Borja of Tetuan Central School for winning Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser, and the students of the National High School West and the Regional Science High School for their gold medal win at the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) in Subic, Olongapo.

Climaco reassured the students, teachers, and parents that the local government will expend all effort to build back a better future for the children of Zamboanga. Recently, the City Government joined the Zamboanga City Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce in the turnover of five newly-rehabilitated classrooms in the Zamboanga East Central School.

“We will continue to partner with all sectors to ensure better education for all children,” said Climaco. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
