Illegal ‘suertres’ is back; bet collector arrested PDF Print E-mail

Operatives of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company arrested a suspected illegal suertres collector last Saturday afternoon as the police renewed its campaign against all forms of  illegal gambling in this city.

Police said that Elvis Dain y Tang, 53, married, of Camanchile Drive, Zone III, arrested along P. Reyes St..

Dain was nabbed after he was caught accepting bets for suertres draw around 2 p.m.
Confiscated from his possession were several gambling paraphernalia such as tally sheets, betting stubs, a piece of carbon paper, ballpen and bet money amounting to P177.

Dain was taken to the ZCPSC for investigation while the confiscated items were turned over to the investigator for exhibit in court.

The arrest of Dain came as the police intensified its campaign against all forms of illegal gambling in the city.

Police sources said a group of illegal suertres operators have renewed their citywide operation collecting bets from people in almost all barangays.

The illegal operation of suertres is affecting the legal 3-digit game of the Philippine Charity Sweeptakes Office which uses its funds to help sick and indigent people.
