At least 250 members of the Pamaran-Cuevas Clan whose roots are in Basilan and Cavite will be celebrating a two-day grand reunion today and tomorrow (May 2-3) here in Zamboanga City.

A gala dinner with program will unfold the get-together to be held in Astoria Regency in the evening of May 2.  A highlight of the program is the awarding of a plaque of recognition to clan elder Virgilio Pamaran for his lifelong efforts to document the lineage and achievements of the clan and for founding the Cuevas-Pamaran-Antonio-Flores Family Association.  The award will be presented by former Basilan congresswoman Elnorita Pamaran-Tugung.

The program will start with the entrance of clan elders, followed by prayers for departed family members and then the keynote address of the guest speaker,Lelita Pamaran-Klainatorn, educator and former principal, Ruwamrudee International School, Thailand. There shall also be video messages by outstanding and prominent members of the clan.

Participating members come from various places in the Philippines and foreign countries as well.

A motorcade at 8:00 AM from Paseo del Mar to Vista del Mar Beach Resort will kick off the second day of the event. At the resort, the family will regale themselves with games, singing, raffles and dances right into the night.

“It’s gonna be a real fun and memorable bonding again as the clan members come together from all over the Philippines and the world for the second time to be reunited with each other after the first Grand Reunion last May 2011,“ clan member Prof. Joy B. Pamaran had earlier said. “We want everybody to experience the real meaning of our reunion theme 2014 ‘One Dream, One United Family’, and this can only be possible if we come together as one big family, imbibed with the true legacy of the two brothers Cayetano and Gabino Pamaran who happened to be the nephews of Pedro Cuevas, a.k.a. “Datu Kalun”, recognized as the founder of Lamitan, Basilan,” she said.

The reunion committee is composed of Virgilio C. Pamaran, adviser; Rowena Pamaran-Mendez, as chairman; Noring Pamaran-Tugung, Arlene Pamaran-Bucoy, Lorna Pamaran-Dionio, Edwin Pamaran, Bibing Pamaran, Jung-Jung Pamaran-Bagsic,  Yolly Pamaran-Galam,  Richard Pamaran,  Joy Pamaran, Dante Mendez and Boy Galam, as members.

The clan last held a grand reunion three years ago.

The clan traces its Basilan roots to Pedro Cuevas, whose exploits in the island in the 1800s led to the founding of Lamitan and his ascension as Datu Kalun, heading the Yakan tribes of that era. Cuevas was later joined by his nephews Gabino and Cayetano Pamaran from Cavite and together they scioned the Pamarans and Cuevases of Basilan. — PR
