Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday joined the labor sector and other stakeholders in celebrating the 112th anniversary of Labor Day, as she thanked the group for the support given her in the May 2013 elections and called on them to continuously have faith in Divine intervention amidst the trials and adversities.

The mayor graced the celebration that coincided with the 2014 Labor Day Job Fair organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and other agencies including the local government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

Climaco recognized the overwhelming support from the labor sector that helped her win the mayoralty race during the May 14, 2013 elections. She urged the group to continue support to her administration and to continue believing that the Almighty will not abandon the people in times of crisis and challenges.

“Poreso I encourage the women, masquin cosa problema ta pasa na de ustedes vida, always believe in your true beauty within and let it shine do not run away from the problems but show that you can be able to help your husband and members of the family to rise above [the challenges],” the mayor said in her message.

She continued: “What will inspire us is the true faith in God. Zamboanga will rise again, all the problems that come our way are just challenges, kayang-kaya natin yan, God will not give us problems that we cannot solve”.

The Labor Day celebration in the city yesterday was marked by a job fair that made available a total of 40T job vacancies with 44 local and international agencies participating.

DOLE-9 Director Sisinio Cano read the message of Labor Secretary Rosalina Baldoz that centered on the Labor Day theme “Sa sipag, tiyaga at talino, buong mundo saludo sa manggagawang Pilipino”.

Jose Suan president of the Labor union also spoke and cited the vital role played by the labor sector in nation building. — Sheila Covarrubias
