Paseo del Mar will be the center of activities today, May 3, as over a hundred kite flying enthusiasts will outdo each other in the Kite Flying Competition-year 12 as part of the Festival de Verano, the erstwhile Summer Festival in Zamboanga. It will start at 9am.

Juego de antes, another highlight in this year’s Festival de Verano, will also reel off at 3pm and will run for 3 Saturdays (May 3, 10 and 17). It will be a fun-filled activity featuring group games that youngsters of yesteryears played.

The kite flying competition will commence at 9am and will have two categories: the Traditional/Flat Kite category and the Figure Kite category. The Traditional/flat kite is the 2D or two-faced kite that comes in any shape whereas the Figure Kite is the 3-D kite with a theme and comes in realistic shapes.

Mayor Beng Climaco (represented by Councilor Mel Sadain) will grace the two events.

Cash prizes await kites that will impress the judges the most, with the top winners in both categories are set to receive a trophy. In addition, special awards will also be given away for the smallest, largest and favorite flying kites in both categories.

Registration of kite-entries is set today.

Meanwhile, the traditional games will include kadang-kadang, sack race, tumbahan lata, shatung, Limbo Rock, Tug of War, Gerry Base, domino and tubigan.
