A security guard and his live-in partner were wounded when gunmen broke into a guard house and shot them at Km. 17, Upper La Paz, last night.

Wounded were Gerardo Napalcruz y Clemente, 50, and Anabel Enriquez y Alvarez, 37, both residents of Purok 5, Talisayan.

Napalcruz sustained gunshot wounds in the head and right arm while Enriquez was hit in both hands.

A police report disclosed that Napalcruz and Enriquez were sleeping inside the guard house of the Western Mindanao State University Forest Reservation area around 11:45 p.m. when a gunman crept in and shot them at close range.

The assailant escaped after the incident while the victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police said the shooting could have something to do with Napalcruz’ work as he strictly implements the no cutting of trees policy within the perimeter of that government owned property.

It was learned that there are illegal poachers who used to cut trees within the area but Napalcruz and other security personnel have late prohibited them from doing so. – Dan Toribio Jr.
