The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Regional Welfare Office IX rendered airport assistance to bedridden OFW from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia who is suffering from breast cancer.

OFW Meriam Jalil Asdaon, 56, wife of Mr. Nasser Lim, one of the active leaders of the OFW Family Circles in Basilan Province, worked as a Nursing Aide at the King Khaled University Hospital, Riyadh, KSA for 19-years.       She survived a Stage 2 Breast Cancer but after three years, the illness recurred and metastasized into her bones and a year after, she was diagnosed to have stage 4 cancer. Asdaon was operated last January 2014 in the spinal area but eventually she was bedridden and refused medication. The hospital/employer facilitated her immediate medical repatriation in coordination with POLO-OWWA in Riyadh.

Asdaon arrived May 6, 2014 at the Zamboanga Airport where her husband, son and daughter were waiting.

OWWO IV, Angeles C. Engalla and OWWA Staff, Sattar J. Yusup coordinated with the Philippine National Red Cross Zamboanga City Chapter for the use of service ambulance from airport to the wharf where Asdaon and her family took a fastcraft ferry to Isabela City.

Director Jumdain, thru OWWA Staff Angeles and Yusup, advised the family of OFW Asdaon to visit OWWA office to avail services for the OFWs such as the disability claim and other assistance due for an active OFW.
