Nat’l vice mayors’ league convenes in Maguindanao PDF Print E-mail

The police, military, and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front have fused ranks to secure more than 500 participants, many of them local officials, to the executive board meeting in Buluan, Maguindanao of the national league of vice mayors.

Manila Vice-Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno, national vice mayors’ league president, will preside over the three-day meeting, to be held at the town proper of Buluan in the second district of Maguindanao.

Buluan Vice-Mayor King Mangudadatu, president of the league of mayors in the province, said participants to the gathering started arriving early Wednesday from different parts of the country.

Mangudadatu said the Maguindanao police, soldiers under the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, and representatives from the MILF, are now helping one another secure the venue of the activity.

Mangudadatu’s patriarch, Maguindanao Gov. Esmael Mangudadatu, said the board meeting here of the league with help disprove misconceptions about the security situation in the province.

“We can prove to the local officials attending the meeting that there is peace now in the province, contrary to how outsiders unduly perceive the situation to be,” Gov. Mangudadatu said.

The governor said they have requested the leadership of the MILF to speak about the gains of the Mindanao peace process in one of the sessions of the vice mayors during their three-day gathering in Buluan.

Vice mayors from the 116 towns in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao have also confirmed to attend the meeting.
