GK supports Brigada Eskwela, donates paint PDF Print E-mail

Gawad Kalinga, through its Bayani Challenge 2014 initiative, has provided some 88 gallons of paints to 11 schools in Zamboanga City in support of the Brigada Eskwela program.

Kholee Calzada, Head of Gawad Kalinga Zamboanga, together with DepEd Assistant City Schools Superintendent Julieto Fernando, turned over the pails of paints to the recipient schools in a simple ceremony at the City Schools Division Office last Thursday.

Receiving two pails of paint, of 4 gallons each were: Sta Maria Central School, Pasonanca Elem School, Pasonanca Annex,  Lunzuran Elem School, Putik Central School, Tetuan Central School?, Tugbungan Elem School, Talon-Talon Elem School, Mampang Elem School, Zamboanga East Central School, and Arena Blanco Elem School.

GK team leader Clipse Iriberri said that prior to the above activity, the Bayani Challenge has already assisted in refurbishing of some schools in the City. These include repainting of some classrooms and fences, landscaping, and total repair of some classrooms.

Iriberri disclosed that these institutions are: the Advent Homes Day Care Center, Talisayan Day Care Center, Maasin Day Care Center?, Recodo Elementary School,  Sinunuc Elementary School, Cabigan Elementary School, Tulungatung Elementary School, and Sinubong National High School.

Meanwhile, on-going is the Bayani Challenge of building of 416 permanent homes at the Tulungatung Resettlement Area. These homes are intended for internally displaced persons in Zamboanga City.  Donors of these homes are the National Housing Authority and the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation. NHA will provide 316 units and NDRF 100 units.
