Kidnappers strike at the heart of Isabela: Mother, daughter seized PDF Print E-mail

Kidnappers struck in Isabela City snatching the owner of a videoke bar and refreshment parlor and her daughter at I. Magno Extension, Port Area, Thursday night.

The latest kidnap victims were identified as Dina Lim Eraham, 45, married and her daughter Yahong Lim Tan, 19, single. Both Chinese nationals, according to the police.

Ms. Eraham owns the Dalby’s Videoke House and Refreshment Parlor where 10 gunmen broke in around 9:38 p.m. and grabbed the mother and daughter.

Mrs. Daniela Hadji y Alip, who is living near Dalby Videoke House and Refreshment Parlor, told police investigators that around 9:25 p.m while she was busy attending to her eight-month daughter, she saw two motorized pumpboats come ashore particularly fronting a mosque and some 60 meters away from Dalby’s.

She said several persons clad in camougreen uniform and armed with high powered firearms alighted from the pumpboats and hurriedly walked towards the bar.

After a few minutes, she said, the gunmen returned along with two persons she noticed as the mother and daughter.

Other witnesses told the police that the kidnappers brought the victims to Lampinigan Island in Barangay Panigayan, Malamawi Island.

Relatives have not received yet  any word from the kidnappers as of press time.

Police and military forces were dispatched to hunt the kidnappers and rescue the hostages.

Investigation is being carried out by ther Isabela police “to possibly locate the whereabouts of the perpetrators and rescue the victims in the hands of their abductors. Constant monitoring on the relatives of the victim to any update as of this moment, plans and their demands,” according to a police report..

Thursday night’s kidnapping came less than two months after a school principal was freed by Moro gunmen in Sumisip, Basilan.

Benita Latonio, 60, principal of Manggal Elementary School, was freed was abducted at gunpoint by five masked men on March 31.

Latonio was forcibly taken by the gunmen while on board a passenger jeepney at Sitio Mompol in Libug village, Sumisip town. The jeep was headed to Isabela City when it was flagged down by the gunmen. – Dan Toribio Jr. with report from Richard Falcatan
