The City Council, in its regular session yesterday, commended a 13-year-old Zamboangueño who has been adjudged as Youth Ambassador for the Junior NBA
District 2 Councilor Roel “Elong” Natividad, chairman of the Council’s Committee on Youth and Sports and proponent of the resolution, said that Rhayyan Amsali, a resident of Villa, Sta. Maria, this city is the latest Zamboangueño basketball player who will bring honor and glory to the city.
Rhayyan was recently adjudged as Alaska’s Sports Youth Ambassador for the Junior National Basketball Association (NBA) during the awarding ceremonies at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Concert Hall in Manila last April 27, 2014.
Amsali was one of the 10,000 participants from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao who attended the 3-day Regional Finals at the PICC, Manila from April 23 to 26, 2014.
The 13-year-old Zamboangueño stands at 6’1” and emerged as one of the Top 10 All Star players. He was adjudged by the organizer as the only Alaska Sports Youth Ambassador for the Junior NBA.
Rhayyan’s father Rizalon Amsali said the top ten youth players are expected to leave for the United States for a sports showdown with other NBA Junior star players in October, this year.
Rhayyan is also the newest endorser of Alaska Milk.  He paid a courtesy visit on Mayor Ma. Isabelle “Beng” Climaco-Salazar the other day. — Monch L. Follosco
