A habal-habal driver was killed while a midwife was wounded in a gun attack along Lobregat Highway in Boalan last Wednesday night.

Killed was Jaime Aquino y Manalo of Curuan and wounded was Maria Socorro Gonzales y Rebollos, 40, married, a midwife at the Lubigan Health Center.

Aquino sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot while Gonzales was wounded and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Initial investigation disclosed that Gonzales was riding on a Honda XRM motorcycle driven by Aquino on their way to Putik where she was staying, all the way from Lubigan around 7 p.m. when two men aboard another motorcycle chased them and the backrider opened fire on them at the descending part of the highway.

Aquino and Gonzales fell on the roadside ditch  while the motorcycle crashed on bushes.
Witnesses said the gunmen sped away towards the city proper after they saw Aquino and Gonzales hit by the bullets.

Police investigators recovered several spent shells of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
Investigators suspect the killers had been tailing Aquino and Gonzales from as far as Culianan before they executed the crime.

Investigators were looking into all angles behind the gun attack.
