Beng appeals to Sulu governor to help free 2 Zambo hostages PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Beng Climaco has requested the assistance of Sulu Vice Governor Sakur Tan to secure the release of the two abducted Zamboangueños who are still in the hands of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Sulu.

“Ta apela yo con Governor Sakur Tan, para si pwede sila ase esfuerzo salva tambien cay maga empleyado se di ila,” said Climaco during the press conference at City Hall Monday, June 23.

The mayor made the appeal even as the City Government is exerting effort to assist the ongoing military and police efforts to find and free the two Zamboangueño captives within its capacity, following official protocols which guide the local government’s response to kidnapping incidents.

“Tiene ta observa el gobierno local y nacional el que se llama guia na responso na personas que parte de maga kidnap groups,” said Climaco.

Foremost of these protocols is the no ransom policy.

Climaco assured the public that the City coordinates with both the security forces, and the local government of Sulu. She further underscored that, as in the kidnapping case of teacher Cathy Casipong, it is the police and the military forces who respond to the situation directly, while the office of the mayor assists their efforts.

“El oficina del alcalde ta asisti, pero tiene kame maga guia,” she noted.

In terms of social assistance to the families of the victims, Climaco stated that the City Social Welfare and Development Office is ready to offer their assistance to those who need it.

“El govierno local como siempre, por medio del CSWDO, ta asisti con todo que ta necesita,” Climaco emphasized.

Aside from her appeal to Tan, Climaco has also asked WESMINCOM Commander Lt.General Rustico Guerrero to save the two captives.

Remigio Lingayan and Joselito Gonzalez were abducted by members of the ASG  on June 4, while working on a construction project in Sulu. Both are residents of Tumaga,this city. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
