The No. 2 most wanted man in Region 9 and his bodyguard were shot and killed after they resisted arrest when army and police operatives served a warrant for their arrest along a coastal area in Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte yesterday.

Killed was Jaujin Salam and his unidentified bodyguard.

Police said the team composed of various army and police units that was to serve the warrant engaged Salam and his bodyguard in a gunbattle when the latter resisted.

No casualty on the government side.

Recovered from the possession of Salam and his companion were two M-14 rifles.

The bodies of the two slain wanted persons and the M-14 rifles werescheduled to be turned over to authorities.

Police said Salam has been wanted for various crimes including kidnapping.

In Basilan, Abdulgafur Mahadi, former barangay chairman of Tandung Ahas and his driver identified as Sabtal Arsal, former kagawad of Barangay Tumakid, were in critical condition after they were shot by unidentified gunmen at Sitio Kahibaan, Barangay Balagtasan, Lamitan City at past 10 a.m.yesterday.
