Marines have captured the main camp of Abu Sayyaf in Patikul, Sulu which served as the lair of top ASG Leader,Radullan Sahiron.

The capture of the camp came after an intense firefight between Marines and the group of Sahiron.

According to Brig. Gen. Martin N. Pinto, 2nd Marine Brigade commander, “the seized camp is fortified with connecting trenches, well–established firing positions and hundreds of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) emplaced in all approaches.”

“Our troops had to breach the enemy’s defenses and squeeze themselves to the complex terrain to be able to get close to the objective. Despite the ASG’s terrain advantage, the Marines held their ground and returned fire as they inched their way to the camp, clearing several enemy satellite camps,” Gen. Pinto said.

He said the persistence of the troops to push forward forced the heavily armed ASG to escape and scamper towards different directions, taking along with them undetermined number ofcasualties (dead and wounded comrades),while on the government side, only two  Marines suffered minor wounds.

The intensified law enforcement operations conducted by the Marines forced the ASG to vacate the camp.

A successful combined operation conducted by the elements of PNP and supported by AFPin Manilahad resulted to the apprehension of Mamay  ABURI, KFRG Leader and a certain on March 5, 2014, around 1:30 pm at Lampinigan Island, Isabela City, Basilan.
