Recognizing the effects of sanitation on the health of Zamboanguenos, Mayor Beng Climaco assured the public of the imminent operation of the sanitary landfill at barangay Salaan, citing sanitary and health concerns.
“Everything that has to do with sanitation has its impact on the health of the people,” the mayor stressed.
During last Monday’s regular press briefing at City Hall, the mayor told the media of her meeting with City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Engr. Rey Gonzales and City General Services Officer Engr. Rene de la Cruz to finalize the utilization of the sanitary landfill at barangay Salaan.
According to City Engineer Luis Despalo, the construction of the sanitary landfill itself is done. However, due to modifications made to the facility’s design, the internal road network is still to be completed.
The decision to transfer to the new disposal facility, Mayor Climaco clarified, will be at the judgment of Engr. Gonzales.
The chief executive also expressed concern for the alarming dengue situation in the city, reiterating her appeal for the public to cooperate with the local government’s efforts to destroy breeding places of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
