“I believe that if you are not inspired to work no matter what you do, you will not really be able to give it your best.”

Thus, emphasized City Mayor Beng Climaco during a seminar on Empowerment Personal Effectiveness for human resource officers and office personnel from all over the country initiated by the Personnel Officers Association of the Philippines Inc. (POAP) at a local hotel on Tuesday.

“It’s like this situation when you recall your first experience of being in love. Try to rekindle the fire and remember what it was about you once enjoyed,” she said.

She advised the participants to take a step back to be able to keep moving forward as she enumerates the bad effects of keeping everything in, because according to her, “when you keep it in, you will also end up absorbing all of the negative energy and the result is, pumapangit ka, (becoming ugly), nagkakaroon ng wrinkles (having wrinkles), hindi ka makatulog, (sleeplessness), at magkakaroon ka ng iba’t-ibang sakit, pati cancer (you’ll acquire diseases, including cancer) kasi kinikimkim mo (coz you’re keeping it in). So you really need to take a step back.”

She also shared Marc Chernoff’s 9 Things Happy Successful People Choose to Ignore as she sets her name’s involvement in the PDAF Scam as an example.

“Ako din naging careless din (I too had been careless) in terms of this PDAF when the projects were offered to us but I really made sure that I am accountable to the people,” said Mayor Climaco referring to the Priority Development Assistance Fund issue.

In everything that has happened in the past, the mayor said she takes full responsibility for it. “I take the responsibility for it, but now I am the City Mayor and that is the past. Let the past be also corrected by mitigating whatever wrong was done and it is a very important lesson I have to learn from life but now this is the moment I have to focus because I have more than 800,000 individuals who need my services, to serve and to help them.”

In closing, she quoted Marc Chernoff saying “You’re strong because you know your weaknesses.  You’re wise because you’ve been foolish.  You can laugh now because you’ve known sadness.”

The said seminar was participated by POAP officials and over 50 participants from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. — Ella Dee Phuddih Cruz-WMSU Intern/ City Hall PIO
