Mayor Beng Climaco has directed the City Internal Audit Team to strictly monitor and assess outputs of the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) in a bid to ensure that infrastructure projects are completed on time.

In a press briefing Monday, the chief executive said she recently met with personnel from the CEO to tackle issues affecting the implementation of various projects. She stressed that there is a need to review the previous system in implementing projects specifically in the release of mobilization funds to contractors.

“And that is where we are right now with a lot of facilities not fully completed,” she said stressing “what we want to prevent is that you just do the projects because of the mobilization fund.”

Climaco said she has tasked the City Internal Audit headed by Geraldine de la Paz to strictly check and evaluate the status of the different projects undertaken by the CEO. “The team will inform us what needs to be done, what the legal impediments are and what need to be corrected so that the projects will be implemented.”

She lamented that numerous projects are not completed on time as some contractors simply collect the mobilization fund and later disappear. This will be resolved through proper preparation of costs and estimates, she said.

The mayor added that numerous innovations and schemes are being implemented to address the different issues affecting the implementation of infrastructure projects. — Ella Dee P Cruz- WMSU-OJT/City Hall PIO
