Zamboanga City is all set for the observance of the 36th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week with the theme:  “Talino at Paninindigan ng Taong May Kapansanan:  Pasaporte sa Kaunlaran.”

Spearheaded by the Regional Committee on Disabilities Affairs (RCDA) IX, the NDPR is dedicated to Apolinario Mabini, the Sublime Paralytic who was born on July 23, 1864.

Teddy M. Kahil, president of the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Sector with National Philippine Blind Union (PBU) Inc. said the observance of NDPR week features undiscovered PWD skills and talents in line with the advocacy on global competiveness.

The activities kicked off July 16 with the Hanging of Streamers followed by  the motorcade set today, July 17.

The motorcade will start at 7am at Pettit Barracks towards Mayor Vitaliano Agan coliseum in Tetuan where the opening program will be held at 9am with Mayor Beng Climaco as keynote speaker. It will be followed by a Press Conference.

The Enhancement of PWD Skills and Talents is set on July 18 at the Garden Orchid Hotel through the sponsorship of the Gender and Development (GAD). July 20 will be the National Registration Day for Voters with Disabilities in all Commission on Elections (COMELEC) local offices. PWDs are enjoined to visit City COMELEC office at Villalobos St. for the registration. A holy mass for PWDs is also set at 10:00 A.M at the St. Ignatius Parish Church in Tetuan also on July 20.

Other NDPR activities include Filipino Sign Language Seminar at the Zamboanga City High School (Main) on July 21;  whole-day Entrepreneurship Seminar at Astoria Hotel sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry ((DTI) together with Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and Department of Agriculture (DA) Department on July 22 and Processing of Passport for PWDs / Closing Program highlighting some successful PWD in this city at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on July 23. — Rosanna Villanueva /Henry Salac
