City Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos posed a challenge to all barangays to donate blood to mitigate the scarcity of blood supply in the city.

“We pose this as a challenge to other barangays to also have blood letting activities just like what other barangays are doing”, Agbulos said in a press briefing in City Hall Monday.

The City Health Office as well as the Philippine Red Cross-Zamboanga Chapter have been advocating for blood donations as dengue cases in Zamboanga continues to proliferate. Cases last June rose to 448 which is more than half the number reported June of last year.

In the same press briefing, Agbulos named the top ten barangays with highest blood units collected in 2013. The top barangays were recognized in a special ceremony, jointly organized by the Zamboanga Blood Council and Rotary Club of Zamboanga, a culminating activity for Blood Donor’s Month celebration last week.

“These are the top ten bloodiest barangays awarded: Ayala, Sta.Catalina, Boalan, Cawit, Sangali, Sinunuc, Labuan, Manicahan,  Malagutay, Zambowood,” Dr. Agbulos said.

Blood donation is only one of the many advocacies of the City Health Office which is preoccupied with medical missions and other health services. — Juseph Elas- WMSU OJT/City Hall PIO
