Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday sworn in the officers of the Federacion del Barangay Kagawad de Zamboanga (FEBARKAZA) headed by Arturo Onrubia as president and urged them to stay united for the betterment of the barangays.

Lobregat said the FEBARKAZA, which was a brainchild of his mother the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat, is an important organization that promotes the welfare of the barangay councilmen and women in tandem with the Liga ng mga Barangay for the captains.

“You should work together and support the programs of the city government,” Lobregat told the FEBARKAZA officers shortly after administering their oath of office at City Hall Conference Room.

Sworn in together with Onrubia were Anastacio D. R. Limen, executive vice president; Danilo Paragas, VP East; Pilarica Ledesma, VP West; Ma Jamiely Czarina N. Cabato, secretary general; Martin Waldo Atilano, treasurer; Rosslyn dela Peña, auditor; Aida Fuchay, business manager. John Dalipe, VP Central, and Teodyver Arquiza, PIO, did not attend the oath-taking.

Also inducted were Board Members (East) Abrecito Canaria, Benjamin Adjula, Ma. Corazon Alawalas, Elizabeth Luna; West- Erwin Molina, Arsenia Barahim, Romeo Praico, Marjorie Sta. Teresa; Central- Jimmy Villaflores, Abelardo Dondoyano, Joey Cruz and Ernie Tan.

Meanwhile, Lobregat did not commit yet to the group’s request for office building or vehicle, saying there are many organizations and councils that do not have their own buildings.

“If I give to one, I might as well give to all,” he said in jest, explaining that even the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation and the Liga ng mga Barangay, which are authorized by the DILG have no building yet of their own. Just the same, he said maybe in the future when the city’s budget allows. — Vic Larato
