Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Governor Mujiv Hataman has asked ARMM police director Chief Supt. Noel Delos Reyes to augment security forces in Sulu and to conduct thorough investigation on the massacre of 23 people, including children and women, in an ambush which authorities said was staged by Abu Sayyaf militants last Monday.

Hataman visited the other night the wounded victims at the Western Mindanao Medical Center (WMMC), this city, for medical and financial assistance.

He said the attack on innocent civilians was beyond comprehension as the entire Islam World was about to celebrate Hariraya Puasa at the time of the incident.

“Talagang wala sa lugar at beyond comprehension sa isang normal na tao itong pangyayari. Mahirap mong unawain na meron silang ipinaglalaban dahil ang ganitong sitwasyon mahirap mong maintindihan kung sila ay normal na tao dahil ang mga biktima meron mga babae at bata,” Hataman said.

The victims were about to visit their relatives on board two public utility vehicles in celebration of Eidil Fitri when about 50 armed suspected Abu Sayyaf gunmen opened fire on them  along road at Barangay Lower Talipao.

Meanwhile, Chief Supt. Delos Reyes said there are already Marines and police forces from the Provincial Public Safety Company securing various parts of Sulu. — Monch L. Follosco
