A revamped Ateneo de Zamboanga University five rekindles the fire of one of local hoopdom’s heated rivalries when it takes on the Universidad de Zamboanga’s Wildcats in the last game of a heavy six-game opening day schedule as the 10th Inter-School Basketball tournament gets underway tomorrow morning at the Mayor Vitaliano Agan Memorial Gymnasium in Tetuan.

The heavy schedule will usher in the foremost inter school cage tourney in the city which has attracted 27 teams in three different divisions.

Pedro Alfaro Jr., President of the organizing Federacion Basketbolistang Pilipinas (FBZ),  said a short opening program highlighted by the parade of teams and the muse competition with Councilor BG Guingona as inspirational speaker. Alfaro who is also SBP Area Head and Trustee will do the welcome remarks while SBP Regional Director Nonoy Elopre will declare the games open.

Mr. Joel Quintanes, competition proper chairman and technical commissioner, said the teams entered are as follows; for High School Boys Group A the participants are Ferndale, Claret Team A, Southern Team B, Pilar College, Saint Joseph, WMSU, Chong Hua and Bethany while in High School Boys Group B are Ateneo, Claret Team B, Southern Team A, Z City High School Main, Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High, J-Jireh School and Zion Evangelical School.

Quintanes added that eight squads are entered in the college men category namely Ateneo, Southern Team A, Universiad de Zamboanga, Southern Team B, WMSU and the teams C and D of Southern.

He added for the first time, a girls’ and women’s category has been added with teams from ZCHS Main and Claret in the former grouping  with squads from Universidad de Zamboanga and WMSU in the latter.

Mr Edgar Galea, another FBZ trustee, will award the winners in the muse competition and the BatangPinoy 2014 competitions held earlier.
