MALUSO, Basilan – Amid the rain, Governor Jum Akbar led last Wednesday the groundbreaking of a Saudi-funded road project signaling the start of the concreting works of the road in this municipality.

The concreting project worth P237 million covers a stretch of 12 kilometers road from the Townsite to Barangay Canas, which is near this town’s border with Sumisip municipality.
The concreting project will be undertaken by the Manila-based construction firm.

Akbar said the concreting of the road is a big boost to this town’s economy, which is basically dependent on fishing and farming.

Akbar said the concreting of the road will also benefit the constituents of the nearby municipality of Sumisip.

“It will enhance and provide easy access to the farmers in bringing down their goods to the market,” Akbar said.

Maluso is a fourth class municipality with a population of 31,054 people in 5,456 households.
Akbar was joined in the groundbreaking ceremony by U.S. and Philippine military and police officials and from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as well as provincial and municipal officials.
