Persons with Disabilities (PWD) leaders representing the different cities and provinces in Zamboanga Peninsula re-elected for the third term Zamboangueno Teddy Kahil as president of the Zamboanga Peninsula Disability Alliance (ZPDA) in a recent election highlighting the Regional Stakeholders forum on Disability Inclusive Development Assembly held in this city.

Citing his commitment to the PWD movement, Benjamin “Bong” Solivio, PWD president of Pagadian City said Kahil has become an inspiration and guiding light for PWDs in the region. He said more and more PWDs who have been “in the dark for so long a time” have come out of their shells and are now fully aware of their rights and privileges. “They fully believe in the popular PWD saying “nothing us, without us.”

A perfect example of this transformation, Solivio said, is Clayford Vailoces, a PWD Municipal Councilor of Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte who was also elected ZPDA Vice President during the forum held July 31 at the Hotel La Vina.

Other officials elected were Gloria P. Malicay of Midsalip, Zamboanga Del Sur- Secretary; Wenifredo G. Almario of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Province as Treasurer and Randy Y. Poligrantes of Pitogo, Zamboanga Del Sur as Auditor.

After election and swearing in of officers, Kahil created vital committees for the PWD Sector that include Technical Working Group, Training / Education and Employment and Sports. Chairpersons of PWD regional representatives were also named and they include Henry Salac of the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Unit (PDAU)-Zamboanga City; Jose Antonio Maraguinot of Sindangan, Zamboanga Del Norte, Clayford C. Vailoces and Benjamin “Bong” Solivio. — Rosanna L. Villanueva /Henry Salac
