4 trafficking suspects charged PDF Print E-mail

The City Police Office’s Women and Children Protection Desk has forwarded to the City Prosecutor Office a large scale human trafficking case against four suspects arrested in a foiled human trafficking attempt at the Zamboanga City wharf Monday.

The joint operation resulted in the rescue of 14 would-be victims who were supposed to be brought to some Middle East countries via Sabah, Malaysia.for domestic helper employment.

Insp. May-Ann Cunanan, chief, ZCPO Police Station 11 Chief  Women and Childrens Protection Desk,  said that  the four suspects were brought Tuesday to the City Prosecutor Office for the formal filing of charges.

“ We can not reveal the names of the suspects because it is already under the jurisdiction of the court,” Cunanan said.

The Philippine Center on Transnational Crimes Western Mindanao Field Office disclosed that the suspects belong to a human trafficking syndicate operating in the areas of Metro Manila, Kalibo, Aklan, Cebu, Davao and Zamboanga Peninsula.

The 14 victims came from Manila, Batangas, Quezon, Isabela  City, Makati City, Davao City and  Zamboanga Peninsula.. They were recruited to work as household servants in Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon.

The arrest and the rescue were carried out in a joint operation of the PCTCWMFO, ZCPO Anti-Vice Unit, City Social Welfatre and Development, Dept. of Justice, Visayan Forum, Philippine Coast Guard Zamboanga Station and Bureau of Immigration. — Allen Abastillas
