SK CAGE TOURNEY: Tetuan, Talon-Talon youths win as East Central games reel off PDF Print E-mail

The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) basketball team of Tetuan won by six points against Guiwan Team in the first game as the games in Cluster B (East Central) reeled off yesterday at the covered court of the Zamboanga City State Polythecnic College (ZCSPC) in Baliwasan this city.

The basketball game is part of the ongoing SK Inter-Barangay Summer League Basketball Tournament 2011, a sports project for the youths of Councilor Joanna Mari Mas, the SK federation president.

The Tetuan youths garnered a total score of 64 while the Guiwan Team finished with 60 points.

The Tetuan youths, who are trailing behind the Guiwan Team earlier in the game, took control of the game when they played man-to-man in the middle of the game’s fourth and final quarter.

Kurt Micheal Contorno skippered the Tetuan squad with 21 points with two other team mates, who contributed a double-digit score.

Jake Bernard Buñol, the top scorer of Guiwan Team, poured in 15 points.
Buñol, is being eyed by one of the schools playing in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

In Cluster B’s second game, the Talon-Talon SK Team outplayed and won over the Arena Blanco Team by 27 points.

The Talon-Talon Team finished with 69 points while the Arena Blanco Team ended up with 42.
Meanwhile, the first game, also being held at the ZCSPC covered court, in the Cluster C (West Central) is still ongoing as of press time.

Meanwhile here are the game results (elimination round) in Cluster F (Far East): Vitali-83, Tictapul-48; Bolong-68, Panubigan-57; and, Vitali-82, Bunguiao-59.
In Cluster A (Central): Sta. Barbara-65, Canelar-45.

In Cluster D (Solid North): Tumaga-67, Sta. Maria-61; and, Pasonanca-69, Cabatangan-65.
Mas said the summer basketball league for the youths is aimed to discover talents from the grassroots and complements to Mayor Celso Lobregat’s sports development program.
