Search-and-rescue units of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have rescued seven crewmen of a Chinese fishing boat which sank after catching fire 18 nautical miles off Mapun Island, Tawi-Tawi Wednesday morning.

Initial reports forwarded by Coast Guard Palawan Detachment head Commodore Enrico Evangelista said the fire and subsequent sinking was reported by Capt. Cipriano Enoy, skipper of the F/B King&Queen, which was plying in the area.

Crew members of the Filipino fishing boat immediately rescued the stricken Chinese sailors.

F/B King&Queen headed for Puerto Princesa to turnover the rescued Chinese mariners who are in good physical condition.

Enoy, however, said they cannot get any details on the mishap as the Chinese crew members cannot communicate in English.
