12 Badjaos rescued from 3 capsized boats: PDF Print E-mail

Three capsized motor bancas, each carrying 19 Sama Badjaos and en route to Sabah, Malaysia to sell fish, were rescued by a Philippine Navy patrol boat northeast of Sibutu Island Tuesday night.

Western Mindanao Command ssaid 12 survivors were rescued, four of whom children and eight adults.

The motor bancas left Bongao, Tawi-Tawi at 6 p.m. Tuesday and capsized due to bad weather.

Crew members of MV Savina, a bulk carrier from Australia bound for China, saw the incident and immediately contacted authorities.

The rescued Badjaos were immediately brought to Bongao, Tawi-Tawi in coordination with DSWD Bongao for prompt medical attention.

Search and rescue continued up to Friday for the missing Badjaos.
