Police here have launched a manhunt against two men riding tandem on a motorbike who shot dead an employee of the Commission on Audit (COA) regional office Friday night.

Senior Inspector Ronaldo Delantin, police station 2 chief, identified the victim as Engr. Oliver Samonte, 54 years old and resident of San Isidro Street, Barangay Rosary Heights Mother, Cotabato City.

Delatin said they have witnesses who could identify the attackers on the early Friday evening shooting.

Delantin said Samonte was back-riding in a motorcycle he hired in going home when two men, riding tandem on separate motorcycle, tailed them and shot Samonte in his back.

Samonte’s motorcycle driver told police he was surprised to see his passenger was falling from his motorbike along Teodoro Juliano Avenue.

He noticed blood on the victim’s back and rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Samonte’s family said he has no known enemy and that he has not received any death threat.

Delatin said police investigators are looking at personal grudge or work related case as possible motive.
