The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is set to hold a dialogue with courier firms in a bid to block the entry of prohibited drugs into the region.

PDEA Regional Director Joseph Latip thought of holding the dialogue following observations that prohibited drug syndicates ship their contrabands through courier firms.

Local airport authorities in the past months have intercepted on separate occasions shipment of shabu shipped through courier firms.

The biggest confiscation of shipment was 19 kilos of shabu with an estimated market value of P180 million on November 9, 2013.

Latip said there is a need to remind personnel of courier firms to be meticulous in accepting package for shipment.

“Kailangan natin makipag-usap ng regular sa kanila at paalalahan sila sa trabaho nila na maging masinop sa pag-inspect at pagtangap ng packages,” he added.

He said they would also discuss in the planned dialogue the new methods or techniques of the syndicates in concealing the prohibited drugs.

He said the dialogue will be held at the soonest possible time.
