Three soldiers from Zamboanga City join the elite roster of the soldiers recognized by an annual search competition for the finest and most exemplary soldiers in the country.

Staff Sargeant Sheryl Toribio of the Philippine Air Force, Sergeant Eugene Padilla PN(M) of the Philippine Navy, and Commissary Steward 2nd Class Felix Guaves II PN of the Philippine Navy, are among the winners of the recently concluded 2014 Search for the Outstanding Philippine Soldiers (TOPS).

Toribio, a native of Zamboanga City, currently serves with the 4111st Aircraft System Maintenance Squadron, 410th Maintenance Wing in Clark Air Base, Pampanga. Padilla is the Team Leader/Assistant Radio Man with the 62nd Marine Company (SPECOPS), Marine Special Operations Group in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, while Guaves is the Assistant Leader/Platoon Sergeant with the Naval Special Operations Unit-8, Naval Special Operations Group. All three are currently residing in Zamboanga City.

Aside from joining the roster of outstanding soldiers, the three winners will also receive a trophy and a cash prize of Php 400,000.00.

The TOPS is an initiative of the Metrobank Foundation which seeks to recognize and pay tribute to the outstanding examples of gallantry, dedication, professionalism, and integrity among members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

It is one of the three annual award searches spearheaded by the foundation for soldiers, cops, and teachers. Collectively known as The Outstanding Filipinos, the awarding ceremonies for all three searches will be held on September 5.

This year’s Board of Judges was chaired by Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, and co-chaired by Regional Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Mujiv Sabbuhu Hataman. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
