A heavy equipment technician was swept away by raging water while he was rescuing a woman and her two children at the Anuling river in Pamucutan at noon last Thursday.

A police report said Reymundo Chin y Delos Santos, 49, married, of Saavedra St., Sta. Maria and an employee of a private company, his elder brother and other co-workers were repairing a backhoe along the Anuling riverbank.

Chin’s elder brother told the police that while they were fixing the heavy equipment, they saw a woman and her two children swimming in the river. Moments later, the sky opened up with heavy rains filling up the river. At this point, the woman and her children tried to swim to the shore, but raging water prevented them to do so.

Police said the mother and children held tight a big rock for safety, and seeing their perilous situation, Chin jumped into the river and successfully rescued the mother and her children,  but when he was maneuvering back to the river shore, he was swept away by raging water that brought him unknown part of the rive.

Chin remains missing as of press time. – Dan Toribio Jr.
