3 Zambo City fishermen nabbed for sea robberies PDF Print E-mail

Three fishermen from Zamboanga City allegedly responsible for the series of sea robberies in Zamboanga del Norte were cornered by police operatives and barangay officials at high seas of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, last Wednesday morning.

Police identified the suspects as Suwaib Hamid, 21, Kabunsuan Mantuwangan, 19, and Melkari Jawahani, 50, all residents of Arena Blanco, this city.

They were arrested in a hot pursuit operation carried out by Sindangan Municipal Police Station backed up by barangay officials of Doña Josefina, following a report that the suspects have victimized four fishermen in the said municipality an hour ago.

A police report said that the victims identified as Peter John Degamo, 23, Mark Lloyd Peñados, 21, William Yabo, 42, and Jehu Paliga, 19, were fishing when the suspects aboard motorized pumpboat surfaced and at gunpoint forcibly took the fishermen’s fishing paraphernalia, personal belongings and their catch fish and then fled. — Noning Antonio
