WM HS students bag Boyscouts regional TOBS tilt PDF Print E-mail

Two High School students from the Western Mindanao Region of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) were selected to represent the Region in the upcoming 2014 Search for the Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts (TOBS). Senior Scouts Rainer Jay P. Edullantes and Jericho C. Ortega, bested  11 other senior scouts from all over Western Mindanao Region in a panel interview conducted last August 30, 2014 at Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay. The panel consisted of the following adult leaders: Jerico Delfinado, Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines Association (TOBSPA) representative; Aquileo Rejirada; Moner Escobar, Council Training Commissioner; Dr. Lilia Unito, Western Mindanao Region (WMR) Program Commissioner;  and, Juliet Tagapan, WMR Deputy Commissioner for Kid Scouting. Lucille Santos, Council Scout Executive of the Zamboanga Sibugay Council, was the Program Officer.

Rainer Jay is a 3rd Year High School student from the Ozamis National High School while Jericho is a 4th Year High School student from the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU). Both earned their Eagle Scout Rank, the highest rank in Scouting, in the recently concluded National Board of Review in Camp Punta Blanca, Mobod, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental.

On its 25th year, the TOBS is an annual national competition sponsored by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and Coca-Cola Export Corporation selecting scout leader achievers. The scouts are evaluated in their boy scout, community, academic and non-academic activities. Only 10 are selected among the 25 regional winners representing all scouts in the country. Upon selection, the 10 scouts will immediately be inducted to the TOBSPA.

Rainer Jay and Jericho will now advance to the National Competition to be held in Manila on October 13-15, 2014. — With reports from the BSP ZC Council
