Some 141 slot machines seized in various parts of the city including confiscated military uniforms and unauthorized plates were flattened and crushed yesterday in public view to manifest the government’s steadfast campaign against illegal gambling and violations of existing laws.

City Police Director Col. Angelito Casimiro together with Mayor Beng Climaco, City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. and department heads took part in the destruction of the confiscated items during rites held in front of City Hall after the flag raising ceremony September 1.

In the process of confiscating the slot machines, the anti-vice squad of the Zamboanga City Police Office also seized the amount of P3,300 as bet money. The amount was turned over to the City Treasurer’s Office prior to the destruction of the machines.

Col. Casimiro said the anti-gambling campaign and drives against violation of existing laws such as the unauthorized use of military uniforms and unauthorized plates in vehicles will be intensified as part of the anti-crime efforts.
