A suspected member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front was arrested and jailed for possession of a grenade in Talon-Talon the other day.

Nabbed was Jerry Saloay-ay, 26, married, a native of Cagayan de Oro and temporarily residing in Landang Gua, Sacol Island. He was arrested at a military checkpoint in Talon-Talon after soldiers found a MK2 hand grenade in his possession.

Saloay-ay was detained at the central police station and was taken yesterday to the City Prosecutor Office for inquest, after which he availed of the 15-day waiver.

Saloay-ay is detained at the central police station until the 15-day waiver expires. He denied ownership of the grenade.

He said he arrived in Arena Blanco from Sacol last week and was fetched by a friend named Joar. They proceeded to the latter’s house in Talon-Talon aboard a motorcycle.

However when they reached a military checkpoint, they were flagged down by soldiers for inspection.
Saloay-ay claimed that the soldiers opened his bag pack and found nothing except his clothes.

He added that the soldiers then opened the U-box of Joar’s motorcycle and told them that there was a grenade inside.

Saloay-ay was confused after he observed that after they were arrested, only him was detained while Joar was nowhere to be found.
