Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn T. Uy on Friday said the Department of Energy has tapped a private group to conduct a feasibility study on how to utilize the two rivers of Dipolog as source of energy via a hydroplant.

Uy said she is optimistic that the feasibility study will have positive result as Dipolog City needs more electric supply for investors to come and also for the people of the entire region to benefit from it.

Uy’s administration aims to transform Dipolog City into a progressive and peaceful place like Singapore and Switzerland.

“ We have a program and promotion that are conditioning the people and all stakeholders to help for the development  of Dipolog under “SWIGAPORE 2030,” Uy said.

She added that they are also educating local residents not to spit anywhere as a protection of health.

Dipolog has also established a no smoking zone,  according to the mayor.

Observers from Luzon and Visayas have noted that Zamboanga Peninsula is fortunate because it is  outside the typhoon belt.

The region has many sources of energy that can be utilized aside from rivers, like sunlight that can be used for solar energy and high ground mountains for renewable energy. — Allen Abastillas
