Merloquet Falls, a natural treasure in the interiors of Barangay Sibulao, some 78 kilometers east of the city, is one of the tourist attractions featured in the 2014  Philippine Travel Mart set from September 5-7 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

Zamboanga City is the lone participant from Zamboanga Peninsula with the booth located at Hall 1, Pavilion B. The city’s participation is to promote the city’s tourist destinations and festivals.

Last night (September 6), Mayor Beng Climaco led City Government officials in highlighting the city’s potentials during the “Zamboanga In Focus”, a venue where Zamboanga had the opportunity to invite tourists from here and abroad to visit the city.

The opening on Friday, highlighted by a gathering of all tour operators from all over the country and abroad, was also attended by city officials including District I Cong. Celso Lobregat and Councilor VP Elago.

As emphasized in the promotional packages, a visit to Zamboanga is not just about its cultural and historic attractions but visitors also need to pack up their things and be ready to get wet in an eco-trek to see the curtain-like cascades of the Merloquet Falls.

The scenic falls is now becoming a popular destination flabbergasting many visitors with its pristine waters gushing down its tier while surrounded by a lush canopy of trees.

Just recently, Mayor Climaco unveiled various road and drainage projects leading to the Merloquet Falls as part of the government’s support to barangay tourism. — Sheila Covarrubias
