A 52-year-old man was killed while his sister escaped unhurt in a gun attack at Sitio Bysog, Manicahan last Sunday night.

Killed was Fernando Delos Reyes y Araneta, married. His sister whose name was not mentioned in the police report, narrowly escaped death because the assailant’s gun jammed during the attack.

Police identified the gunman as Richie Araneta, 34, married of Manicahan.

Investigation disclosed that Delos Reyes went to Araneta’s house to talk about pasturing of farm animals at the vicinity of the latter’s house but they figured in a heated argument.

Police said at the height of their argument, Araneta drew a handgun and shot Delos Reyes hitting him in the arm and at the back portion of the body.

Not contented, Araneta shot the victim’s sister but the gun jammed.

The gunman escaped after the incident while Delos Reyes was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Recovered at the crime scene were two live ammunition and one spent shell of .45 caliber pistol. — Dan Toribio Jr.
